DIY Disinfectant Spray

Many teachers, myself included years ago, ask for wipes. I don’t send them anymore and neither should you. Yes, we want teachers to be vigilant with the health of their classroom…but those things, are unfortunately not very healthy. So I am going to show you how to make a disinfectant spray that works! Any teacher (or momma) would love to have in their classroom (or home) complete with that fall spice smell that will make them swoon!

First of all, why not? Well the wipes that teachers ask for have MIPA-borate, a known hormone disruptor. Also, they can contain P-chloro-o-benzyphenol which can cause respiratory allergic reactions and is a skin irritant. As a girl mom, it is also important to me that cleaning products do not have ingredients that can damage fertility. I know that was a mouthful, but I am sad to say that I do not feel protected by companies that include these harmful ingredients in cleaners.

And not to mention, we care about the ocean right?!? The CDC and WHO have reported that Benzalkonium chloride and ammonium hydroxide are toxic to all the little fishes in the deep blue sea. As if turtles and other marine life don’t have enough to deal with as our world embraces convenience at the expense of nature.

So my family sends this to school instead. Teachers are happy because some of them have done the research on the junk in the wipes. Some of them are just happy to learn something new. Some of them just love the smell and well I cannot blame them!

DIY disinfectant spray:

Spray bottle

1 Cup hydrogen peroxide

1/2 Cup water

1/4 Cup Thieves Cleaner

*add essential oils if you choose*

Make this disinfectant spray that works! Show that hard working teacher in your life some love. Keep your family, school and community healthy and safe this year. Happy DIYing!
